Arsenal believe they could sign 'special' £100m talent for less than his release clause this summer

Ahead of a busy summer, Arsenal now believe they could achieve one high-profile move for something of a cut price.

In truth, Mikel Arteta will have probably decided his transfer plans well before this season ended.

Arsenal want to operate swiftly this summer in a similar fashion to last when they secured the signatures of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz before pre-season began.

Edu Gaspar will know his brief, and he’ll no doubt be working around the clock to ensure Arsenal can add two, three or maybe even four world class players.

A striker is thought to be the priority, someone who can compliment Kai Havertz across the season and add to his goal-scoring.

Where that would leave both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah remains to be seen, with the latter looking more and more likely to leave.

That being said, it’s not just a striker that Arsenal will be targeting, a midfielder and possibly even a left-back also seems to be on the agenda.

And with that in mind, iNews have just provided an illuminating insight into Arsenal’s plans.

Arsenal believe they can sign Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes for less than his release clause

Mikel Arteta is said to be interested in two Newcastle United players this summer: Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.

And whilst Isak seems pretty unattainable – a player Newcastle want to build around, Guimaraes currently has an active release clause that stands at £100m.

The Brazilian has enjoyed another ‘special‘ season and that may be deemed fair value by some.

However, according to the report mentioned by iNews, Arsenal believe they can sign Guimaraes for less.

The midfielder’s release clause expires at the end of June but via this information Arsenal expect that they can broker a deal later in the summer.

Newcastle’s position seems to be clear, Guimaraes won’t leave unless his release clause is met.

But with some talk of the Brazilian being interested in a new challenge, either Arsenal or Manchester City, who are also mentioned to be monitoring the situation, may test that resolve.

Perhaps Arsenal fans would prefer to sign Isak out of the Newcastle pair, but Guimaraes certainly would be a transformative signing too.
