Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta makes promise to David Moyes in hope of final day title favour

David Moyes could do Mikel Arteta and Declan Rice a massive favour when West Ham travel to Manchester City on Sunday as Arsenal eye a historic Premier League title success.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists he'll forever be indebted to David Moyes if he can do his side a favour on the final day of the Premier League season - but hasn't spoken to his former mentor.

Moyes is set to take his West Ham side to Manchester City on Sunday with the Gunners hoping the Scot can get a positive result at the Etihad. Arsenal need to beat Everton and hope City draw or lose against West Ham to secure their first Premier League title in 20 years.

Arteta and Moyes worked together during their time at Everton. But despite their close connection, the Arsenal manager has decided not to message Moyes before the Hammers take on City as he does not think it is needed.

When asked if he will be contacting Moyes, Arteta replied in his pre-match press conference: "No I don't think I need to do that. He's been instrumental in my career. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. If he could help us to fulfil our dream he'll always be in my memory that's for sure."

Meanwhile, Moyes can also do ex-Hammers captain Declan Rice a favour. Rice left West Ham last summer after guiding them to the Europa Conference League to join Arsenal for £105m. But Moyes, who is taking charge of West Ham for the final time, is not setting out to do his former team-mate a favour.

"No," was the Scot's emphatic response. "Everybody here loves Declan and remembers him but we're not doing it for Declan. We're doing it for ourselves, do the best we can."

Who will win the Premier League title?

Arsenal sat one point ahead of City after their 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday. However, Pep Guardiola's side moved back to the top following a 2-0 win against Tottenham, with Erling Haaland scoring both. That saw the Gunners drop to two points behind in the race for the title.

Quizzed if his Arsenal players needed lifting after City won for an eighth successive Premier League game, Arteta said: "The hope was there and it didn't happen and now we have to do our job which is going to be tough because Everton are in a really good moment, so we're going have to prove again that we can be better than the opponent and win the game.

"Then we have to wish for the best and for West Ham to have a really good day and help us to fulfil our dream. That's what we're hoping for."
