Gary Neville Slammed for 'Disrespectful' Comparison of Kai Havertz to Roberto Firmino

 

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville sparked controversy when he compared Arsenal's Kai Havertz to former Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino.

Following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, Neville praised Havertz's performance, noting his ability to drop deep and link midfield with attack.

He drew parallels between Havertz's playing style and Firmino's, stating that both players prioritize the team's needs over individual glory. As Neville put it, "Havertz is doing a similar thing to what Firmino did at Liverpool. He drops in, he links the play, he provides a goal threat. But he's subservient to the team, he'll do whatever the team needs during a game."

Neville's comparison, however, was met with criticism from Liverpool fans, who felt that Havertz was not worthy of being mentioned alongside Firmino.

 One fan argued, "Havertz couldn't even lace Firmino's boots never mind be compared to him. The disrespect is unreal."

 Another fan pointed out, "Until Arsenal's two main wide forwards both score 20 times in the league with Havertz as the 9, I'd refrain from using this comparison this early tbh. Firmino was too special to be compared to Havertz of all players."

Gary Neville's comments highlight the differing opinions and biases that exist in the football community. While he aimed to praise Havertz's contributions to Arsenal's success, his comparison to Firmino was seen as an insult by Liverpool fans.
